2012 Here We Come!

Another new year is upon us.  I am not a big resolution maker, but this year I do have a few.  Like a lot of you I want to declutter. Our living space is pretty good, but the basement and garage looks like we are hoarders!  It has been hard because my mother in law passed away last May and we have all her things in these 2 areas.  My husband is not quite ready to think about selling or even giving away her things, so here they stay.  We need to organize the stuff though, as it is a jumbled up mess.  He said we will take a small area at a time and go through it all.  It is just getting around to him wanting to do it.  One of my main resolutions for this year is to try to cut back on my grocery bill.  There has to be a way!  Couponing is not my thing. I have tried it some, but it seems like the coupons are always for things I don't usually buy so buying something for the sake of that is not a help.  I have 3 adult children that live here, and they eat a lot. My husband is also retired and eats all day long. lol . You would be horrified to know what I spend per week on food. My resolution is to begin to plan meals for the week on Sunday, go shopping once a week instead of daily, and try to get this grocery budget under control. It will take some getting used to for us, but it has to be done. What are your resolutions?
Happy New Year!

  1. Sounds like a lot of work! But I'm sure there will be some great memories uncovered. As for is hard to get a bargain these days. Things just keep going up, don't they? I always check the sale ads. I don't coupon either. I find that most of that stuff is what I wouldn't normally buy anyway. I have done a menu plan for so many years, it is second nature for me. I would be lost w/o my plan. It has taken several years to learn how to cook w/o leftovers though. It's just the 2 of us now and I was used to a crowd....*sigh* I miss having the kids to cook for. Well, sometimes I do!

  2. It was hard for my mom to part with some of my dads stuff, so I know what your hubby must be going through. I don't make resolutions, but if was to, it would have to be getting organized. I do plan my meals for the week and it does work out fine...if I don't do it that way, then I spend way too much money myself. LOL. Good luck! Happy New Year. Janice

  3. Thanks for the tips ladies! I am going to start this week planning ahead for meals and checking the sales. Happy New Year to you!

  4. Oh you and I have so much in common. We have four kids and my husband takes lunch everyday. People cannot believe what I have to buy a week. I have stopped couponing for th most part as it has really dried up. They don't offer much savings any longer. And I can relate on the garage. Nine years after my parents died I finally dealt with the last box of theirs and shredded the last paperwork from them. I just had to keep death certificates. It can take a long time as it isn't anything you look forward to to go thru all that stuff.
Keep in touch on your grocery shopping endeavours and I will share mine. It has become so costly to feed a family any longer. Nothing is cheap nowadays.

  5. Happy New Year. I am wishing you good luck with your projects!! De-cluttering is hard work but is so refreshing when done. We spend so much money on groceries a week too. It could be more though. I have a menu and only shop once a week. Wishing you a great week. -Steph-

  6. Hi Nadine! I was looking at my list of followers on my blog and came across your blog so I decided to come over here and meet you.

It's hard to go through and get of things that once belonged to someone you love. I don't know personally but my MIL has been saying for 5 years that she wants to go through her husband's things and get rid of some stuff. About every 6 months or so, I offer to help her (she's the one that keeps saying it) but she just says nah, not now. She obviously is not ready. I don't want to push her but on the other hand, I want her to quit talking about it. So I know that it's hard to let go of some things. I hope you're able to this year.

I also have 3 kids at home, but younger. Being a one income family, we have to watch our spending. But it's tough because 2 are boys and my goodness, can they eat!

I'm not a resolution maker because I always fail. But I wish you the best with your resolutions this year!

Nice to meet you! Have a delightful week~

  7. Thanks for your comments ladies and nice to meet you too Angie!
